Today we have the largest youth population in history. This demographic trend translates to the need for deliberate investment in the development of young people in the broader global development context, because our gains in this regard rely greatly on what we do and don't do for young people.

Claudia*, a Mayan girl visiting from her village home in El Cerro Grande, arrived at a Guatemala City hospital with severe abdominal pains. After a brief medical exam she was released by the doctor, who found nothing wrong with her.
Claudia belongs to Guatemala’s most disadvantaged group: indigenous young females. Girls like her typically live in isolated rural communities with limited access to basic services like water, sanitation, passable roads, schooling, and health care. Their lives are marked by early marriage, frequent childbearing, social isolation, violence, and chronic poverty. Often they are disregarded by more affluent Guatemalans, like the doctor who examined her. Read more...

Voting is now closed! We received almost 6,000 votes and the winners will be announced on March 7th.
We received more than 500 submissions in the following categories: Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns, Technologies and Innovations, Educational Initiatives, Health Interventions, and Leadership and Empowerment Programs. A selection committee of experts and advocates from leading global NGOs and foundations chose 25 per category. The top 125 are posted here, and voters may choose their 10 favorites, per category. The 50 winners will be announced on March 7th, and they will be featured prominently on Women Deliver's website, through the selection committee's social media portals, and at the Women Deliver 2013 conference in Kuala Lumpur.
