A Powerful Noise LIVE demonstrated not only the capacity for the field of Women’s Empowerment to put on a nation-wide advocacy event, but also the possibility of engaging the public in these issues. The film celebrated three marginalized women who mobilized their communities from the ground up, ultimately bettering the lives of not only other women, but their entire community. Through telling these stories, the film simply shows that women are the agents of change in development agendas worldwide.
In the panel discussion immediately following the film, NBC News Anchor Ann Curry moderated a conversation between Former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright, Natalie Portman, Christy Turlington Burns, Nicholas Kristof, and CARE’s President, Dr. Helene Gayle. Although from very different fields, all five panelists advocated for the impact of investing in women and the consequences of what would happen if we don’t. Among their many powerful statements, they all said that speaking up and demanding international rights for women was not only their charge, but ours as well. Within an instant the cameras and gaze of the panel fell on the audience, and the message was clear: we need everyone to make this happen! A Powerful Noise LIVE was a superb beginning to what we hope will be an ongoing initiative of women from all nations demanding equality and the possibility that brings.
Did you see the film? What did you think?
