Dr. Fred Sai, Ghanian Physician and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Advocate, Celebrates His 90th Birthday
Join us in wishing a very happy birthday to Dr. Fred Sai, Board Member Emeritus and long-time friend of Women Deliver. Dr. Sai has been a champion for maternal and reproductive health for his entire lifetime, and next week will celebrate his 90th birthday. We will be compiling birthday messages for Dr. Sai and would love your input!
Dr. Sai served as the chairman for the Main Committee of the International Conference on Population and Development, ICPD, in Cairo in 1994, which produced the Programme of Action, emphasizing the centrality of women to all development programmes and called for world attention to the improvement in the status of women and for equity and equality between the sexes as the basis of all human relationships. Dr. Sai is also the author of a memoir, With heart and voice: Fred Sai remembers. Beginning with his childhood in the colonial Gold Coast, these memoirs cover his medical training in post-war London, his public health work in Ghana after Independence, and his further education in Edinburgh and Harvard.
We honor Dr. Sai for his steadfast dedication to making the world a better place for girls and women, and for his tremendous contributions to the field.
