Ideas for Change: Investing in Women

Change.org just launched the 2010 Ideas for Change in America competition and the White Ribbon Alliance has submitted a call to the US government to make maternal and newborn health a priority by investing in women. Their idea is titled: Invest in a More Stable World, Invest in Women. It states , "Empowering women and girls—beginning with a healthy pregnancy and safe childbirth—is the key to greater overall global health, self-sufficiency, economic growth and peaceful sustainability. Progress is being made to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of women and newborns around the world.  Yet every minute, a woman dies in pregnancy or childbirth. By expanding proven strategies, we can accelerate progress so hundreds of thousands more women and newborns can lead healthy, empowering, inspiring lives."

Various non-profit organizations have submitted ideas for change in America and the top 10 voted ideas will be presented at an event in Washington, DC to relevant members of the Obama Administration, and then promoted to Change.org's full community of more than 1 million people. Please VOTE FOR THIS IDEA. You do not have to be a resident of the United States to vote. The contest is based on crowd-sourcing, which means that as ideas receive more votes they'll rise to the top of the pile. So after you vote, please take a minute to SHARE with a friend!
