By: Eranga Omo-Ehiabhi Isaac, Women Deliver 2013 Scholarship Recipient, Nigeria
Recently, the Nigeria Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI), presented me with an award for excellence as Family Planning Champion for my zest in maintaining a column on Family Planning in the Nigerian Observer newspaper. I was a 2013 Women Deliver scholarship winner at Women Deliver's 3rd Global Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I attended the conference as a journalist.
When I returned from the conference, as promised in my scholarship application, I started a column on Family Planning in the Observer newspaper. My commitment to this column led to NURHI to name me as a Family Planning Champion last month in Benin City, Nigeria.
NURHI's activities are promoted by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and are primarily focused on promoting family planning practices in six Nigerian states.
I dedicate this award to Women Deliver for the great role they've played in equipping and encouraging me to contribute to the course of women, not only in Nigeria, but the world at large.
