(March 7, New York) - At a roundtable meeting on March 5 hosted by the High-Level Task Force for the International Conference on Population Development (ICPD), Government Ministers, delegates to the 57thCommission on the Status of Women (CSW),  and representatives from UN agencies and non-governmental organizations—164 individuals representing 36 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East—shared recommendations for action around the event’s theme, Charting a Forward-Looking Agenda–Ending Violence Against Women and Girls and Fulfilling Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for All. High-Level Panel on Post-2015 Agenda Meets with Civil Society in Liberia

The Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda met in Monrovia, Liberia last week to consult with civil society and discuss the national building blocks required for sustainable progress. Under the main theme of Economic Transformation, panel members focused on the issues of enablers and barriers to economic transformation; equitable and sustainable outcomes; the role of the private sector; partnerships; conflict and fragility; and African perspectives and positions. In total, over 100 participants attended, including 60 civil society representatives. Of these, 40 met with the High-Level Panel members on January 30th. Read more...

The International Consortium for Emergency Contraception (ICEC) Relaunches Website

The International Consortium for Emergency Contraception's (ICEC) mission is to expand access to emergency contraception (EC) around the world, with a focus on developing countries. EC is a safe contraceptive method that offers women a valuable second chance to prevent pregnancy after sexual intercourse has taken place; it is especially valuable in case cases of rape of sexual coercion, but it is still underutilized in much of the world. ICEC brings together over 2,000 health care providers, pharmacists, researchers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and others committed to our mission. Read more...

Secretary-General Appoints Young Jordanian as His Envoy on Youth

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Ahmad Alhindawi of Jordan as his Envoy on Youth, a spokesperson for the world body’s chief said today. “The Secretary-General in his Five-Year Action Agenda identified ‘Working with and for Women and Young People’ as one of his top priorities, the spokesperson added in a note to the media. “In this context, the Envoy on Youth will work to address the needs of the largest generation of youth the world has ever known.” Read more...

The deadline for applying to Speaker's Corner has now passed.

The Speaker’s Corner at Women Deliver 2013 will be an opportunity for delegates, agencies and organizations to launch special events, projects, campaigns and reports. Running concurrent to all sessions other than the main plenaries, the Speaker’s Corner will be located  within the Exhibit Hall. Each session will be no more than 10 minutes long, with 5 minutes for Q&A. Read more...
