I wanted to write in to share information on a project that has shown real progress. A report by UNICEF India in January 2009 found that about a million neonatal deaths occur in the country each year.

New York – This Sunday, the New Times Magazine focused on women's rights and the realities of women's lives around the world in a special issue called, "Saving the World's Women." Women Deliver's advocacy efforts are in line with many of the issues explored in the magazine – women's rights, equality, maternal health, newborn health, girls' education, and more. The articles are compiled by NY Times Columnist Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, incredible advocates for maternal health and women in developing countries. Good News on Preventing Cervical Cancer

Each year, over a quarter of a million women die from cervical cancer. Of these women, around 80% live in the developing world. Cervical cancer is caused by HPV, one of the most common STIs. This week, Akimbo talks about different HPV tests (there's more than a PAP smear) and vaccines available.
